The (Triumphant) Return of the Red Hot Chili Peppers? So far.

New RHCP album Cover!! The grandeur in simplicity.

Alright, a relatively short post today. I just need to express my adoration for the Red Hot Chili Peppers — a band that has only released 3 albums since 1999 including the double-album Stadium Arcadium.  However, in 3 albums, they have given us 59 songs. If you divide that by the number of albums, that works out to nearly 20 songs per album.

(You’re lucky to get over 10 songs on a new album these days…)

In those 59 songs, there isn’t one that I dislike.  This is a band that–yes–may be too “mainstream” for some who prefer the lesser known band/artist, but as far as consistency and quality albums, and music in general, there’s no denying that the Red Hot Chili Peppers are, and have been on top of their game for the past 10 years.

In 1999, Californication resurrected their strayed careers by delivering them huge success after their previous album with guitarist Dave Navarro was dismal, to say the least.  Fans and critics alike figured they had seen the end of RHCP, but like Lazarus, they bounced out of the grave with a skip in their step and put out a 14-track album that had fans raving and critics scratching their heads, asking “Where the shit did this come from?”

As previously mentioned, they released another 2 albums after Californication: By The Way and Stadium Arcadium.  These two albums couldn’t be more different, yet they are both so very RHCP.  Now, with guitarist John Frusciante having called it quits a few years back, the band has brought in multi-instrumentalist/producer Josh Klinghoffer to take over the guitar duties.  This is what has made me the most nervous regarding the most recent album.  Klinghoffer has enormous shoes to fill as Frusciante is such a diverse and interesting guitarist, and Stadium Arcadium was his showcase.

So that brings us to today.  The boys from RHCP have released their first track from the upcoming I’m With You, oddly titled The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie.  [Listen here: Red Hot Chili Peppers – The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie]

The first few listens bring me a smile and great satisfaction, as the tune starts with a cool bass line from the world-famous Flea accompanied by a solid drum beat.  It sounds like the Chilis haven’t missed a beat.  After hearing the entire song, I’m that much more excited for the rest of the album, due out August 30th.

Oh, and in case you aren’t a fan of the Chili Peppers, heres another track by an up and coming star: Surprise!

  4. Nice Surprise! Haha, I’m glad you wrote on this though. RHCP needs as much support as they can get, because this song is going through some tough reviews.
