Top 25 Tunes of 2012 – Thus Far.

The Balconies

It’s officially a quarter of the way through the year.

1/4.. $0.25.. 25%… 0.25…. Getting the picture?

I composed this list at this time last year—a 1/4 of the way through the year—influenced by the editors at Paste Magazine who had done the same thing.  It was all for shits and giggles until I realized it was one of my busiest posts of last year, so I decided to do it again!

The people have spoken and they’ve said, “Me like list.”

The tunes are in a thought-out order, but really, aside from the Top 10, the other 15 tunes are pretty interchangeable with one another.  I intentionally book-ended this list with songs from my two favourite albums of the year thus far.

Here we go: [don’t forget to click on the song for a link to the video/stream!]

  1. Plants and Animals – The End of That
  2. Said the Whale – Big Sky, MT
  3. Kathleen Edwards – Change the Sheets
  4. Band of Skulls – Bruises
  5. Behind Sapphire – Black Ties
  6. The Balconies – Kill Count
  7. Hands & Teeth – Le Petit Voleur
  8. Yukon Blonde – Stairway
  9. Bahamas – Lost in the Light
  10. Jack White – Love Interruption
  11. Zeus Strong Mind
  12. Islands – This Is Not a Song
  13. Ingrid Michaelson – Do It Now
  14. Slow Club – Two Cousins
  15. Big Wreck – Albatross
  16. Coo Woo – Amanda Knox
  17. Of Monsters and Men – Little Talks
  18. Rococode – Concentrate On Me
  19. Great Lake Swimmers – Easy Come, Easy Go
  20. Royal Canoe – Caught In a Loop
  21. Real Boys – Marly
  22. Blanket Barricade – X-Out
  23. Wintersleep – It Came In the Flood
  24. Plants and Animals – Lightshow
  25. Said the Whale – Loveless

Although it was only 3 months through the year, last year’s 1/4-year list was indicative of the way the way the MTAF’s Top 30 of 2011 rounded out, particularly in the top 10… Will it happen again this year?

Cheers!

  1. Can’t believe The Shins didn’t make the list.

  2. You better have the Big Wreck album or I’m going to punch you.

  3. You should check out The Royal Canadians! They should be on the list
